Rainbow Hopscotch

Here’s a fun, relatively easy project to do with kiddos: rainbow hopscotch! Hours of entertainment hopping around from number to number and a game that, as my friend Tim put it, makes no sense at all! It doubles as yard-art. What’s not to love?

Okay, let’s go! ❤️💛💚💙💜

  1. Lay the pavers out on the drop cloths spaced far enough apart to avoid overspray.

  2. Spray paint 2-3 coats to get to desired coverage/color (follow the instructions regarding dry time between coats listed on the spray paint can)

  3. Sketch the numbers onto the painted pavers

  4. Paint the numbers onto the pavers

  5. When the numbers are dry, spray on glitter and/or clear enamel to seal in the magic - I recommend 2-3 coats of enamel

  6. Install in the desired location

  7. Play!

Materials:

  • 9 12x12 pavers (<$2 each at Home Depot or other home & garden store)

  • 1 larger paver for the #10 ($6ish dollars at Home Depot or other home & garden store)

  • Spray paint (we got 7 cans in rainbow colors - I recommend Rustoleum from any hardware store)

  • Colored pencil

  • Latex paint samples or acrylic craft paint

  • A few small brushes (craft store or Amazon)

  • 1 clear satin enamel spray can - make sure it’s for “outdoor” projects (hardware store)

  • Sheets or drop cloths, cardboard would also work

  • Number stencil (optional)

  • Spray glitter (optional)

Spray painted pavers, ready for numbers. We only sprayed the tops and didn’t worry about the sides.

Prep:

  • Purchase all materials ahead of project date (I took the kids with me to pick out spray paint colors and the LOVED it)

  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting paint on

That’s a lot of effort for a game that doesn’t even make sense.

Time:

  • A full day (easier on a warm day to speed up dry times)

Our “1” turned into a chicken. As with all projects… sometimes you get part way through and realize you need to go a slightly different direction!
